Not in Love?

“I love you … but I’m not in love with you.”

What does this mean?

After researching and contemplating the meaning behind these words I have concluded the following:

Feelings and Love fall in different categories.

When one says “I love you but I’m not in love with you” they are saying I care for you but I am not excited about you.  Caring and concern are good things but they are transient feelings. When someone says these words they are confused about what love really is.

Love is an action!  It is a verb.  It is not a feeling you get from another person.

There is only one love!  Love is the experience you receive as a result of the deeds you do for another and the personal commitment you have made.

The actions you do in your relationship are demonstrated – there is no secret here.  A healthy relationship principle is this: you can “make” love.

Just as the right diet and exercise can make you stronger, so too can positive attitudes and habits make your relationship stronger.  And when you feel connected again … you feel the wonderful feeling of being in love – with life, yourself and your love relationship.
