WHO SHOULD CALL DR. KAREN?
People who want a highly qualified, top-notch therapist with advanced education, certifications, and personal experience with a wide range of problems should give me a call or send me an email. If you have had an unsuccessful therapy experience call me to discuss a new approach. If your spouse or teen is hesitant, come on in and we'll make a plan. We can integrate your therapy experience with other alternative healing methods or medical treatments.
SHOULD I COME IN BY MYSELF OR WITH MY PARTNER OR CHILD?
People come into therapy for many reasons. Some are responding to unexpected changes in their lives, while others seek self-exploration and spiritual growth. If you or someone you love are overwhelmed, therapy can help! We will discuss how to integrate your partner or child into the therapeutic process. I will provide support, problem-solving skills, practical tips, spiritual grounding and enhanced coping for life challenges.
WILL THIS BE A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE?
I enthusiastically work with my clients and provide extra attention as needed. I am skilled with couples in crisis, teens, and men and women wanting to participate in a life-affirming experience that incorporates mindfulness, cognitive therapy, mediations and ritual.
HOW SOON CAN I SEE YOU? CAN I CALL YOU TO DISCUSS THE SITUATION?
I can often schedule an appointment within a day or two and I try to pick up the phone when I am available. Call or email me for a free phone consultation.
CAN I AFFORD COUNSELING?
Perhaps the question might be: "Can I afford to NOT seek counseling?" Working it out is less expensive than a divorce, separation or the side-effects of having a family or child in a chaotic situation. I am a recognized member of the Marriage-Friendly Therapists and believe most family problems can be worked through with structure and persistence.
My philosophy is that duration of therapy is more important than the frequency. In other words, you might come in weekly for a few times, and then choose to spread out your visits to accommodate your current financial circumstances. Staying with it over time is the best bet to resolving many negative patterns of relating.
WHAT BENEFITS CAN I EXPECT?
A number of benefits are available from participating in therapy with me. I can provide a fresh perspective on a difficult problem or point you in a new direction. I can help you sort through the communication problems you are having with your partner or child. I can help open up a healthy conversation with your teen; I provide great discipline strategies that work.

WILL INSURANCE COVER ANY OF MY EXPENSES?
My fees are paid directly by you to me. I prefer to keep a credit card on file and bill following each visit. I will provide you with an insurance reimbursement form you can send to your insurance company for reimbursement. I bill your insurance electronically for an additional fee at your request.
Does your insurance company cover your visits? In short, if you have a PPO like Blue Cross or Anthem, a portion of your sessions will be reimbursed after deductibles are met. There are a confusing array of insurance arrangements. Check with your insurance carrier to see what mental health benefits will be paid to you for an out-of-network provider.
As a side note, a health program may not cover couples counseling but they will cover sessions with the couple or family if a diagnosis is made for a client who is diagnosed with a problem like "anxiety" or "adjustment disorder"
